When GM introduced the Lumina for the 1990 model year, they wanted to prove that their new mid-sized line-up for Chevrolet was a great option for families. What better way to accomplish that task than to create a tie-in with Disney?
Around the same time as the introduction of the Lumina, Disney was preparing to open their new theme-park, Disney MGM Studios. The Lumina would become the official vehicle of Disney MGM Studios ( because every theme-park needs an official vehicle ), and a series of short commercials were created featuring Disney characters animated over live-action film à-la Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The first commercial premiered during the 61st Academy Awards. Details regarding the production process for these commercials can be found !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
GM was initially concerned that people might be offended by using the well-known cartoon characters to push their new products, but soon discovered through focus groups that “our testing showed that Mickey and Minnie brought tremendous believability to our product”
The Disney cartoon characters may have been too well-known, however. Supposedly, GM discontinued the use of these commercials fairly quickly as they discovered that consumers remembered the characters much better than the cars themselves.
GM would later partner with Warner Bros. for a special trim level of their new at the time Venture minivan in another attempt to grab the attention of the market of family buys.

God, between this and the Premier Cruises tie-in, its a real reminder of when Disney was not the crazily overpriced overly programmed brand experience it is now.

Taking a cue from the noon post scheduled for midnight.
I think a slough of theme posts covering the Pacific Time hours of 11 PM to 3 AM would be a potent sign of strength and unity against our oppressors here and on the outside.

These days I imagine it’s all done digitally. I don’t think it has the same thrill as knowing someone had to take a reciprocating saw and hack the roof off a practically brand new car, then had to use film cameras to actually make it look decent.

I haven’t even seen a modern ad like that. All contemporary car ads do is show people stroking the infotainment center, or extreme closeups of door pulls . You don’t see the rest of the interior.

Say, that could be a fun game. Guess the car given some obscure photo of some random part.

I would imagine that would be neat to see. I think whoever would put those together would certainly need to get creative.
The cut-offs on the pillars for this Camry look a bit odd. I can’t decide if they did some post-photo touch-ups.
And is it just me, or is this Supra missing the pillar behind the door?
